Ivica Stevanović (1977)
The wider audiences know him for his illustrations of chidren's books and as a graphic designer. He illustrates for domestic and foreign publishers. He has published more than thousand illustrations in textbooks and picture books.
He is renowned for his specific and original approach to illustration, which is displayed in important author publications: The Island of Doctor Moreau (Easton Press, 2018), The Bestiary (Centipede Press, 2016), Izgubljeni slučajevi (Komiko / Orfelin, 2014), Ljubazni leševi – enhanced edition (Komiko, 2011), Buntovnici (Orfelin izdavaštvo, 2011), Prognana bića (Orfelin izdavaštvo, 2010), Gnusobno-spodobni slučajevi, ili udesi (author publishing, 2009), Katil (Everest media, 2008), L’Anatomie du ciel (Les Humanoides Associes, 2006), Leksikon Likovnih Legija (SKC NS, 2005).
He is a professor at the department of graphic communication at the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad, Serbia. He lectures book design, illustration and comics.
He has received numerous awards in the fields of design, illustration, caricature and comics. He is also the author of the last six Grossmann posters.
The Whisperer in Darkness
Exhibition of illustrations, made for books from the Poetics of Horror series by Orfelin, publisher from Novi Sad, Serbia. Stevanović's work on the Poetics of Horror series started with illustrating the covers for a collection of H.P. Lovecrat stories, entitled The Whisperer in Darkness. Cosmic horror, which permeates Lovecraft's stories, was an ideal starting point for Stevanović's journey and exploration of the »otherwordly« visual narrative while working on the Poetics of Horror books. The exhibition presents a selection of twenty illustrations, mostly inspired by Lovecraft's stories, but there are also some that were made for the works of writers such as Bram Stoker (Dracula's Guest), Arhur Conan Doyle (The Parasite), Robert Louis Stevenson (The Body Snatcher, Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde), Clive Barker (Books of Blood) and others…
